Vera Morgan Long, 90 of Norman died Sunday, Jan. 18. A celebration of Mrs. Long's life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Primrose Chapel in Norman with Jerry Hobbs officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Primrose Funeral Service in Norman is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Long was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Cherokee County in Texas. She moved to Mountain Park in 1915 and to Norman in 1923. She attended Norman schools and graduated from Norman High School in 1932. She received a degree from University of Oklahoma in 1936.

She met her husband, Clark, while at OU. They were married April 11, 1936, and were married 57 years. Mrs. Long was a member of First Baptist Church for 47 years.

She was active in teaching Sunday school, missionary circles and Training Union. She also was active in the community. She was a Camp Fire leader, Cub Scout leader and PTA president for her three children. Family members say she was dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through her teaching. Mrs. Long taught English at Norman Junior High School for three years. She taught French for 16 years and Latin for 15 years at West Junior High School and West Mid-High School. She was a member of the Cleveland County Retired Teachers' Association and a life member of the Oklahoma Education Association and Oklahoma Retired Teachers' Association. Family members say Mrs. Long's commitment to faith, family, friends and community will be remembered and built upon for generations to come.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and husband, Clark.

Mrs. Long is survived by her children, Sue and husband, Roy, of Norman, Reggie and wife, Johnnie, of Oklahoma City and Carolyn and husband, Richard, of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
